Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The process of upgrading an item, often referred to as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment increases the stats linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales according to their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade of an item can be a method to increase the stats on your weapons and armor. This can be accomplished by various methods such as the use of upgrade components and also upgrading an item's mark levels or rarity. In addition there are many items that can be reforged, which could increase their stats.
You can find upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available in all over the world, as well as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. The main way to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components which are the items that can be inserted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with slots for upgrading and some require a certain amount of upgrade. Some upgrade components give specific bonuses, while others offer an overall bonus.

Glyphs

Each glyph comes with a range of values it can improve a stat by, as shown on the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use it to enchant an Artifact. This is the highest value that a glyph can improve a stat by, not the amount that it actually increases it by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the quality and tier of the item you are in awe of it.
The majority of upgrade components added to items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary upgrades and equipment. If you do have a rune or glyph that hasn't yet been applied to your equipment, you can transfer it to another piece of equipment by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
You can remove the glyph using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item where the glyph is installed will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be retrieved by removing the glyph fragments.
When you take away an item after putting a glyph on it, the shards of that glyph will disappear. You can also place an inscription on your equipment to give it a bonus. For instance, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly instead of all at once. This is useful for players who suffer many hits from enemies but do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens allow players to alter the affixes on their weapons and equipment, and they can be obtained in various ways, including in mistery boxes or as an uncommon drop from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Each reroll token grants players a new random affix, which is typically better than the original one. Reroll tokens can also be a good way to reroll weapon stats that can be upgraded to provide better damage or other perks.
Rerolled items don't appear in the menu of upgrade options, but they can be upgraded. If you click the "upgrade button", you can recycle these items that have been rerolled. This will change the layout of the item's window, and allow up to six items be chosen to recycle. The level gauge is increased by recycling an item. This amount is determined by the item's rarity and its level, which means higher-level items are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.
Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to roll rerolling weapons to upgrade units. Rerolls will determine the % chance of a weapon trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower, it remains unchanged. Weapons can be rerolled up to three times.
Rerolling is a great method to improve an item. However, players should be aware that the total ilvl is reduced by the number the rerolls required to bring it to the final ilvl. This lowering effect is most effective with Diadems and rings that do not have any competing ilvl-raising options.
Some players have complained that the reroll system is too expensive. It's more fair to allow people to pay for it with cash or food items which allows players to make changes to their builds without spending too much time. However, paid rerolls are not something the developers want to implement at this time in the game's development. They are planning to add an ingredient that allows players to alter their race in the future.
Leveling
There are many ways to upgrade an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount which boosts the value of upgrading a given stat. The second option is to boost the effect of an upgrade, which boosts damage or healing for an individual stat. Additionally, there is the ability to upgrade the base item to a more powerful upgrade type. The new item will retain its iLevel but have the upgraded effects of the upgraded item.
When upgrading your items, it is important to keep in mind that upgrades are not guaranteed. Most of the time, a higher roll is based on the glyphs. However there are instances when a greater or special roll may occur. In addition the iLevel of an upgrade will be determined by the type of item, so if you upgrade a unique or rare item to an extraordinary type you could achieve a higher iLevel.
Upgrades to items can be costly, particularly when you're upgrading a piece of gear from the normal to the legendary track. The price will be based on the item's iLevel base and the number of upgrade levels it has. Additionally, certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to reach the next upgrade level.
If you're lucky, your upgraded item may attain the highest level on its upgrade track and unlock an additional benefit. This will give you a substantial increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect is different with each upgrade level. Generally speaking, the upgrade effect is increased by a value of +3.
The iLevel also changes according to the upgrade path and its base level. For example an item that has been upgraded from a rare or exclusive item to a rare or exceptional item is likely to gain the Enhanced Defense of the base type of item.
